Songwriting inspiration rolls on...presenting "A Letter".

It would seem that my hasty exit from Jubal Modine (and the Love Handles) and further inspiration from Red has left me brimming with all manner of song ideas. They come to me just as fast as they did in the old days. Maybe I should have stopped smoking pot a long time ago, eh?
Anyways, here is the second in what I hope will be a large batch of new songs. Red was telling me just a couple of nights ago that he wanted to get together in our friend Jacob's home studio and record a batch of my stuff. I can pretty much figure out most of the tunes he'll want on that disc, but I'm hoping he'll like this one and "Behind" enough to want to include them as well.

"A Letter"

I received your letter yesterday
And every word there on that page, they put me in my place
Left me feeling lost, without a trace
Showed me how the honest truth is sometimes hard to face

I should have realized it from the start
I believed a foolish lie, kept it close at heart
Like a beacon in the dark
Until I read your letter, you tore it all apart

I'm writing back today
I'm sorry I don't have too much to say
But I'm writing anyway
To let you know that I received your letter yesterday

I'll fold it up and hide it from now on
I'll keep it in my Bible between the Proverbs and the Psalms
And as the years roll slowly on
I'll know just where to find it, that none of it was wrong

I'm writing back today
I'm sorry I don't have too much to say
But I'm writing anyway
To let you know that I received your letter yesterday

I'm writing back today
I wish I could write something to make you want to stay
Should I put my pen away?
Or let you know that I received your letter yesterday
